On the Water

Part of me desires nothing
but the thrill of slicing -- human-powered --
through the wakes of million-dollar boats.
No fuel but muscle on my humble craft.

And then the rest of me is content to linger
close to shore, skimming over water lilies
with sapphire damselflies in midday heat.

Late summer, and a single melody
repeats itself with every lazy stroke:

  1. this melody makes me picture myself drifting along in a gently rocking row boat, hand trailing in the water, umbrella shading me from the baking sun, sound of various flying creatures and the occasional pop of fish breaking the surface.

    Lovely.
